Skye Johnston receives Youth Initiative Award 2013

It gives the UYCE Board great pleasure to announce the winner of the Ian De La Rue Youth Initiative Award for 2013.

Our heartfelt congratulations go to Skye Johnston, who has been selected to receive this honour, which is given annually to an outstanding community member in our region aged between 15 and 25.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Skye is a student at the Upper Yarra Secondary College and was nominated by teacher Rodney Fay. Her list of achievements is impressive and evidences her passion for basketball and coaching, and leadership through her participation in the Duke of Edinburgh award. In 2012, Skye participated in the Evolve program, which focused on developing leadership skills, building resilience, cooperation and team work, learning how to be a role model as well as facing fears. Over the past two years Skye has also been involved in the ‘You & I’ Project, a program run by Yarra Ranges Health aimed at helping secondary students learn about and form respectful relationships.

Rodney Fay says, ‘Skye is a young person who is definitely getting the most out of her life at school, enhancing her life experiences, and demonstrating positive work and relationship/communication habits that will certainly provide her with a firm basis for achieving her goals.’

We at UYCE and the Warburton and Yarra Junction Community Bank branches are proud to support the future of this conscientious, self-motivated and diligent student who is already offering so much to our community.

Skye accepted her award and a cheque for $1000 at a presentation by voluntary board member Elizabeth Fox at our Annual General Meeting on 30 October 2013. Please join us in expressing our pride in her achievements and congratulating her on her success.
